A Hidden Gem for Dogs Who Need Space: Our Visit to Woofing Woods

If you follow Dottie PAWS, you’ll know that finding the right environment for dogs who don’t thrive in busy, unpredictable spaces is something I think about a lot. So when I discovered Woofing Woods, I had a feeling it was going to be something a bit special and I wasn’t wrong.

What Is Woofing Woods?

Woofing Woods is a private hire woodland space. When you book a session, the entire space is yours - 4.57 acres of secure woodland to explore at your own pace.  Think of it like having your own private corner of Chevin Forest.

The Space - The Real Star of the Show

I want to talk about the extras in a moment, but the space itself is amazing. It surpassed my expectations.

Woodland paths and lots of space to roam.

For a dog who finds the world a bit overwhelming, being able to sniff and explore, without the pressure of other dogs or unpredictable people nearby is transformative. And for the humans too!

The Lovely Extras

The folks at Woofing Woods have clearly thought carefully about what dog owners actually want and what dogs enjoy:-

The Ball Pool Yes, a ball pool for dogs. Mine were a little apprehensive at first, but soon came around.

The Sniffing Station Sniffing is one of the most enriching, calming, and mentally stimulating things a dog can do - they loved sniffing out the treats.

Agility Equipment A handful of agility bits dotted around for those who want to use them - a nice option if your dog fancies a go. Dottie loved it!

A Selection of Long Leads This is such a thoughtful touch. Different long lines available on site to borrow, perfect for if you want to practice some recall.

On-Site Parking, Spare Bags, and Even a Tennis Ball Vending Machine

And a picnic table. Worth noting that’s it just one vehicle only per session.

The Cost

A 50-minute private session is £18. For sole use of a 4.57 acre secured woodland with all of that on offer? I think that’s good value, especially when you consider what it gives a nervous, reactive, or sensitive dog in terms of confidence and calm.

The One Honest Downside

It gets booked up fast And I mean fast. Availability is limited, spaces are like gold dust, and you’ll need to plan ahead.

I’d recommend checking their booking page regularly and signing up for their newsletter at

Why I’d Recommend It for Dottie PAWS Dogs

So many of the dogs I work with are exactly the kind of dogs Woofing Woods would suit - reactive dogs, anxious dogs, puppies, elderly dogs who may need space and a gentler pace.

The private, pressure-free environment is perfect!  We will definitely be going back.
